Delhi police have busted yet another cricket betting racket operating during the ongoing World Cup matches with the arrest of three persons, officials said.
Police claimed that it was the fifth betting syndicate busted in the capital since the World Cup matches began.
”The persons were caught in Ashok Vihar’s Wazirpur village when they were conducting the betting on the match between Sri Lanka and Kenya yesterday,” Deputy Commissioner of Police (crime) Ashok Chand said.
The arrested persons were identified as Navjeet Singh alias Vicky (29) running a transportation business, Shailesh Payal Kalu (34) running a tyre business and Karan Singh Chadha (28), son of an architect.
A laptop, 12 mobile phones, one television, four notebooks and four data cards were recovered from them. The DCP said the trio had received bets from the punters to the tune of Rs one crore.
On Monday, five property dealers were arrested in Delhi for allegedly running a cricket betting syndicate in a posh area of East of Kailash here, police said.
”The accused were arrested on February 27 last on a tip-off while the World cup match was going on between India and England,” Mr Chand said.
Two laptops, 38 phones, one calculator, two televisions, one cassette recorder and five notebooks were recovered from them. ”Total betting till the time of the raid was of Rs 1.35 crore,” the senior official said.
