The UT Administration has finally got the approval of the Central government to build an underpass on the railway crossing between Hallomajra and Industrial Area Phase 2 of Panchkula.
The route from Hallomajra to Panchkula was opened to the public in 2009 to take the load off the Housing Board chowk route and the lesser preffered Chandigarh IT park route to panchkula. But the railway crossing in between had rendered it unpopular as it congested and slowed down the traffic flow. An underpass was considered the solution to this. Now, its construction has been cleared.
The underpass would be built on an inclusive engineering concept. That would lessen the effort for those on manually driven or animal driven vehicles, the underpass would have a separate passage at a lesser depth as compared to the parallel passage for motorized vehicles.
The underpass will be built at a cost of around 16 crore Rs which will be shared by the UT administration and the railways. While the administration will foot 80 per cent of the bill, the rest will be taken care of by the railways. If all goes as per the plan the underpass will be ready by March next year.
