Watch Prime Debate – Remembering Husain

M F Husain was often referred as the Picasso of India. He was one of those artists who brought Indian art to the global arena. M.F. Hussain spent the last five years of his life in self-imposed exile, after a long disputed controversy over paintings dating from the 1970s, that were considered by many to be anti-Hindu.

Conflicting ideas and ideologies have thrived in India for centuries and the country’s ability to manage diversity has been its greatest asset. But what value is art if it does not provoke, stimulate and trigger a debate? This is what we discuss in Prime tonight.

Discussing the issue will be Diwan Manna, Chairperson, Chandigarh Lalit Kala Academy; Neelam Man Singh, theatreperson; Rana Nayar, Head of English Department, Panjab University and Seema Bhalla, a scholar of art history.
