Polling to elect 26 councillors of the Chandigarh Municipal Corporation (CMC) is underway at 452 polling stations here.
Around 5.06 lakh voters, including 2.25 lakh women, will seal the fate of 152 candidates, including 50 women during the day-long polling process at the polling stations – 31 of which have been identified as sensitive.
The polling, which started on a dull note in the morning in view of the chilly weather conditions, was expected to pick up as the day advances.
Even otherwise Chandigarh MC witnesses a low voter turnout which was 46 per cent five years back.
The counting of votes will take place on Monday. The main contest is between the ruling Congress and the opposition SAD-BJP alliance.
