The Ludhiana police have arrested a doctor and his accomplice for allegedly threatening to kidnap the son of a local businessman and demanding ransom. Police said the accused Dr Surinder Sharma and Karan Arora had earlier also abducted the 7-year-old boy about a month ago but released him the same day.
This time he called up the family and feigned to be a Lashkar terrorist and threatened to kill the boy if he was not paid three lakh US dollars as ransom. Later, however, the deal was settled at Rs 10 lakh cash and 1 kg gold.
The hosiery businessman informed the police and a trap was laid. The ransom was placed at a secluded place as demanded and when the accused came to collect it, they were nabbed. The police have recovered four SIM cards and mobiles from the accused. Further investigation is on in the case.
