The Shiromani Akali Dal and BJP alliance under the able leadership of Punjab Chief Minister and Patron of the party S. Parkash Singh Badal and Punjab Deputy Chief Minister and President of the party today created history with clean sweep in municipal corporation election of Patiala, Jallandhar, Ludhiana and Amritsar and elections to the 3 municipal councils and 26 Nagar Panchayats. The alliance has bagged comfortable majority in all the civic bodies.
In a statement released from the party head office here today, the party Secretary and Spokesman Dr. Daljit Singh Cheema said that SAD-BJP alliance has completely swept the Patiala MC elections as candidates of the alliance have won 39 seats out of the 49 results declared in 50 member house. Re-polling has been ordered at one seat of ward no1. He said that SAD has bagged 32 out the 35 seat contested and BJP has won 7 out of 15 seats it contested.
Similarly in Jallandhar alliance has bagged majority with its candidates wining 30 seats out of the 59 results declared. Re-polling has been ordered in one polling booth. SAD has won 11 out of 22 seats contested and BJP won 19 out of 38 seats contested.
In Amritsar the combine has won 48 out of the total 65 seats. The SAD has won 24 out of the total 27 seats it contested and BJP has won 24 out of 38 seats it contested.
Similarly in Ludhiana the combine has won 42 out of the 70 results declared in 75 member house. The SAD has won 29 out of the 38 seats contested while BJP has won 13 out of the 37 seats contested.
Dr. Cheema said that in elections to three municipal councils SAD-BJP alliance had already won Dharmkot elections unopposed and in Nagar Panchat elections Makhu and Mallanwala had also been won unopposed. (Detailed Chart of elections has been enclosed)
The SAD Spokesman further said that the results in today’s civic elections has once again proved that people have voted for the pro-development agenda of the SAD-BJP alliance. The second consecutive victory in the elections in the state has confirmed the faith of the people in programmes and policies of the SAD-BJP alliance. He said that the SAD-BJP goverment has done unprecedented development in the urban areas of the state and people of the state want development to continue and this mandate is for all round development of urban areas.
“The people of the state have totally rejected the negative agenda of the Congress party” added Dr. Cheema.
