WEF Summit in Gurgaon from Nov 6-8

The three-day World Economic Forum on India summit will be held in Gurgaon this year from November 6. The Forum’s senior Director and head of Asia, in WEF’s Geneva, Switzerland, headquarters, Sushant Palakurthi Rao called on Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda  in this regard. This is the first time when the Forum has decided to hold the Summit in Haryana.

The state has appointed Haryana State Industrial and Infrastructural Development Corporation (HSIIDC) managing director Rajiv Arora as the nodal officer for the Summit.

Rao informed that the theme of the summit this year would be “from deliberation to transformation” and said about 600 participants were expected to participate in the Summit, including 150 from overseas.

Multi-stakeholders including state-heads and leaders, leading entrepreneurs, business tycoons, policy-makers, members of civil society would take part in the summit.

The World Economic Forum on India, previously known as the India Economic Summit had been organising the summit in the country for the past 27 years. He said being a hub of leading multinational companies with excellent infrastructure facilities, Gurgaon had been selected as the venue for holding the Summit this year.

Rao also apprised the Chief Minister about the Forum, which is an independent international organisation committed to improve the state of the world by engaging business, political, academic and other leaders of the society to shape global, regional and industry agendas.

The Forum represents about 1000 leading companies and 200 smaller businesses, mainly from the developing world and “India holds the Forum’s second largest base of member companies behind the United States and ahead of China and Germany,” he said.
