Mayor Raj Bala Malik, team visit Sec-40 Chandigarh

After all the lashing the MC has received, Friday turned out to be a pleasant surprise. Mayor Raj Bala Malik visited Sector 40 where she found drainage in good working condition despite the downpour in the morning.

On Friday Mayor Raj Bala Malik and her team visited Sector 40. This area is represented in the Municipal Corporation by Congress councillor Gurbaksh Rawat. The morning saw a major downpour and while many other areas of the city were waterlogged, drainage in Sector 40 was good. Most road gullies were found to be litter-free. The mayor described it as a pleasant surprise.

Area councillor Gurbakhs Rawat and other sector resident accompanied the mayor on her walk-about. She was warmly welcomed by the Sector’s Market Association. The area councilor said that for the most part, work had been done properly. A few road gullies were found blocked. The mayor ordered these blockages to be removed immediately.

A section of Sector 40 residents recalled that before the monsoon they had met their MC councilor and pointed out the problem areas. Consequently, the councilor ensured that road crews tackled the identified spots. The effort showed when the first heavy rain hit two weeks ago. However, residents also had some sharp words for the Public Health Department staff. They said that the staff had a very casual attitude toward their duties and woke up only when there was some occasion like the mayor’s visit.

During the visit to Sector 40, the Mayor remarked that she is getting daily calls from Sector Welfare Associations to visit their sectors next. She said that a schedule has been drawn up and she will go according to it and she assured the associations that no sector would be left out.
