CMs of BJP-ruled states accuse Centre of discrimination

Chief Ministers of BJP-ruled states today accused the Centre of meting out step-motherly treatment to them in disbursement of central funds and discrimination in implementation of federal schemes.

At a party conclave of BJP and NDA ruled states, CMs of Gujarat, Chhattisgarh and Jharkhand among others alleged that their states were suffering due to the wrong economic policies of the Centre and its bias against them. In his presentation, Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Raman Singh charged that the Centre has failed to control the growing budget deficit, check inflation and devaluation of the rupee, improve the investment climate, remove obstacles in economic reforms and bring about fiscal transparency.

He also said the Centre has caused delays in decision making and failed to coordinate with states. Jharkhand, which was represented by Women and Child Development minister Vimla Pradhan, suggested that the central government should take steps to design schemes keeping the local factors in mind and also remove unnecessary duplication of schemes. Pradhan also said the central government should only focus on major national projects that involve inter-state coordination and transfer rest of the central funds to the states so that they can run schemes according to their priorities.

Jharkhand has alleged that the Centre discriminates against it in implementation of power projects, foodgrain supplies and implementation of Jawahar Lal Nehru Urban Renewable Mission and expenditure on deployment of paramilitary forces.
