Rs 257 cr collected as market fee during this fiscal: HSAMB

Haryana State Agricultural Marketing Board (HSAMB) has collected Rs 257 crore as market fee during the current financial year up to July 31. The board had collected a sum of Rs 176.44 crore during the corresponding period last year. “It has been possible as a result of the special steps taken by the Board to check evasion of market fee,” a spokesman of the Board said here today. He said the Board had taken up a number of new projects of providing alternative marketing opportunities to the farmers so that they might get better value of their produce. The Board had taken up the projects of development of new Mandis at various places, besides mega projects of upgradation and modernization of grain and vegetable markets at Karnal and Rohtak.

Apple market had already been set up at Panchkula at a cost of Rs 3.72 crore, he said. He said that modern Air Conditioned Retail Market (agro shopping malls) were being set up at Panchkula, Karnal, Panipat and Rohtak. A project of setting up of cold chain facilities, including provision of cool chambers, ripening chambers, grading, sorting and packaging facilities in 15 grain markets had also been completed at 14 stations with an estimated cost of Rs 83.23 crore, with an assistance of Rs 16.82 crore provided by the National Horticulture Mission (NHM), he said.
