Manali-Leh highway blocked by heavy rainfall

Incessant rainfall has wrecked havoc in the upper reaches of Manali and Lahaul-Spiti.

Heavy downpour near Nehru Kund has triggered landslides causing shut down of Manali-Leh highway. Vehicles en route to Keylong and Leh are now stranded. There is a possibility that snowfall in the next few days might close the highway creating further problems for Border Roads Organisation in transporting essential supplies to Leh and other regions. The BRO is trying its best to open the highway to traffic as soon as possible; however, continuous rainfall leading to frequent landslides is hampering the work.
