Yeddy hints at own party by December-end

Accusing the party leadership of “deceiving” him on promises, former Karnataka Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa today indicated he might launch his own party by year-end.

“I am touring the state for the last two months. I will launching the third phase (of tour) from next month. I want to take the opinion of people and workers. After December, I will take my own decision,” he told NDTV. He was replying to a question whether he has made up his mind to break from the party and form his own in the light of his remarks attacking the party leadership and praising Congress chief Sonia Gandhi. When pressed further whether he was considering such a course of action, Yeddyurappa said he has not taken a decision as yet.

“I will take a decision in the month of December,” he said. He said the party leadership, including President Nitin Gadkari, have “deceived” him in the last six months after making various promises including Chief Ministership and Presidentship of the state unit. “But, he did not take any decision. He told me that if the court gives any relief then I will be made the Chief Minister. I got relief from the court, but the national leaders have deceived me,” he said. He said he was longer an aspirant for any office in BJP, saying “it was too late”.

Yeddyurappa said he still has respect for A B Vajpayee and L K Advani but after Vajpayee, there is no leadership united to guide the party. He also cited the examples of some leaders in Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra and Delhi to buttress his claim that leaders were treated shabbily. The former Chief Minister also said Gandhi and Congress had never made any “scapegoats” of leaders going by “false allegations”
