Every year the PGI needs around 62 organs for transplant but it receives only 8 to 10. Doctors say that part of the reason for the shortfall is that few people know about organ donation or the procedure for making this gift of life. To spread awareness the PGI has now put up a website giving all the relevant information.
The PGI has put up a website giving information on organ donation. On Saturday the Director of the Indian Council of Medical Research Dr N.K. Ganguly launched the website. Speaking on the occasion, the PGI Director Dr Y.K. Chawla said that only a few people are aware of organ donation or the procedure involved. The website, named Lamp of Life, aims to provide this information. If more people came forward to donate organs, the PGI would be able to help many people live a normal life.
