No reax without evidence: Sharad Yadav says on Swamy’s charge

NDA convener Sharad Yadav today refrained from commenting on Janata Party chief Subramanian Swamy’s remarks against Sonia Gandhi and Rahul, saying he did not believe in passing comments without evidence.

“I don’t believe in making comments without evidence,” he said when asked to react to Swamy’s allegations regarding acquisition of a company that ran National Herald newspaper. At the same time, Yadav hit out at the UPA government saying the amount of corruption money has exceeded over Rs 5.5 lakh crore if CAG’s recent reports are taken into account.

Rahul’s office has described the allegations as “utterly false, entirely baseless and defamatory” and threatened to pursue “all legal actions” against Swamy. The JD(U) chief felt that bypassing Parliament is not the right way to fight corruption, as more than any other agency, it is the Parliamentarians who ensure action against corrupt people.

“Most of the people in Parliament are doing their job with honesty. If some of them are into something bad, then media is free to criticise them. But Parliament should be praised for the good work it is doing,” he said.He also attacked those who discuss and criticise the functioning of Parliamentary Committees without proper understanding and authority.

“It is sad that matters discussed in JPC are coming out in the open and are discussed and criticised by people. Most of those who discuss these things hardly know anything about the topic. I have been member of several committees and I think the issues discussed there should remain there only,” he said.Yadav asked media to follow a “proportionate method” of reporting and giving due preference to functioning of Parliament.
